class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u300c\u674e\u6f22\u6e2f\u6977\u300d\u662f\u9999\u6e2f\u7b2c\u4e00\u5957\u773e\u7c4c\u6210\u529f\u7684\u8857\u982d\u66f8\u6cd5\u5b57\u9ad4\uff0c\u4fee\u5fa9\u904e\u7a0b\u63a5\u8fd1\u4e94\u5e74\uff0c\u65bc2020\u5e74\u5e95\u9054\u6210\u773e\u7c4c\u91d1\u984d\uff0c\u5176\u5f8c\u6b63\u5f0f\u958b\u653e\u4f9b\u8cfc\u8cb7\u3002\u5b57\u9ad4\u7684\u539f\u5f62\u7531\u5df2\u6545\u8857\u982d\u66f8\u6cd5\u5bb6\u674e\u6f22\u66f8\u5beb\uff0c\u7531\u5176\u646f\u53cb\u7684\u5152\u5b50\u674e\u5065\u660e\u4fee\u5fa9\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u6bd4\u8d77\u300c\u5b57\u9ad4\u8a2d\u8a08\u5e2b\u300d\uff0c\u674e\u5065\u660e\u66f4\u60f3\u4ee5\u300c\u62db\u724c\u4f6c\u300d\u81ea\u7a31\u3002\u4ed6\u5f9e\u5c0f\u63a5\u89f8\u62db\u724c\u88fd\u4f5c\uff0c\u5c0d\u4ed6\u4f86\u8aaa\uff0c\u5b57\u9ad4\u5f9e\u4f86\u90fd\u4e0d\u662f\u85dd\u8853\uff0c\u4e5f\u4e0d\u66fe\u8b93\u4ed6\u72c2\u8ff7\uff0c\u4ed6\u751a\u81f3\u81ea\u8a00\u5c0f\u6642\u5019\u300c\u8a0e\u53ad\u7f8e\u8853\u300d\u3002\u4ed6\u8a8d\u70ba\uff0c\u5b57\u9ad4\u53ea\u662f\u4e00\u7a2e\u8207\u751f\u6d3b\u4ea4\u878d\u7684\u6771\u897f\uff0c\u907f\u7121\u53ef\u907f\u3002\u800c\u674e\u6f22\u7684\u5b57\u53ef\u8aaa\u662f\u516b\u3001\u4e5d\u5341\u5e74\u4ee3\u9999\u6e2f\u98a8\u8c8c\u7684\u4e00\u90e8\u5206\uff0c\u5147\u731b\u7c97\u8c6a\uff0c\u8207\u820a\u9999\u6e2f\u90a3\u7a2e\u300c\u5225\u6b3a\u8ca0\u6211\u300d\u7684\u7cbe\u795e\u4e00\u8108\u76f8\u627f\u3002\u5176\u9023\u8cab\u7684\u7b46\u5283\uff0c\u4e5f\u860a\u85cf\u4e86\u524d\u4eba\u7684\u62db\u724c\u88fd\u4f5c\u667a\u6167\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u96a8\u7740\u6642\u4ee3\u8b8a\u9077\uff0c\u9713\u8679\u71c8\u62db\u724c\u53d7\u76e3\u7ba1\u3001\u62db\u724c\u88fd\u4f5c\u96fb\u5b50\u5316\uff0c\u9999\u6e2f\u8857\u9053\u5df2\u6162\u6162\u63db\u4e0a\u65b0\u756b\u98a8\u3002\u5b57\u9ad4\u6bd4\u8d77\u5f9e\u524d\u5f97\u4f86\u5bb9\u6613\uff0c\u540c\u6642\u5b57\u9ad4\u8a2d\u8a08\u4e5f\u8da8\u5411\u5c08\u696d\u5316\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u5728\u4e5d\u5341\u5f8c\u5b57\u9ad4\u8a2d\u8a08\u5e2bRoy Chan\u773c\u4e2d\uff0c\u5b57\u9ad4\u662f\u4e00\u7a2e\u9ed1\u767d\u7dda\u689d\u7684\u85dd\u8853\u3002\u7576\u5b57\u9ad4\u5347\u683c\u300c\u85dd\u8853\u300d\uff0c\u537b\u9700\u9762\u5c0d\u975e\u6cd5\u4e0b\u8f09\u7684\u98a8\u6c23\uff0c\u4f7f\u672c\u4f86\u8271\u5de8\u7684\u4313\u9ad4\u5b57\u9ad4\u958b\u767c\u904e\u7a0b\u66f4\u96e3\u5be6\u73fe\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u4ed6\u5275\u7acb\u300a\u601d\u7dd2\u4fe0\u9020\u5b57\u300b\u56de\u61c9\u6642\u4ee3\u9700\u6c42\uff0c\u5e74\u534a\u9593\u9020\u51fa\u7d04200\u6b3e\u98a8\u683c\u5404\u7570\u7684\u5b57\u9ad4\uff0c\u6bcf\u5957\u5b57\u53ea\u6709\u5341\u81f3\u6578\u5341\u5b57\u3002\u5c0d\u4ed6\u4f86\u8aaa\uff0c\u6559\u80b2\u9999\u6e2f\u4eba\u662f\u7576\u52d9\u4e4b\u6025\uff0c\u300c\u7db2\u7d61\u71b1\u5ea6\u3001\u65b0\u9bae\u611f\u300d\u662f\u7576\u4eca\u9700\u6c42\u3002\u7136\u800c\u5275\u4f5c\u8207\u5546\u696d\u5316\u793e\u6703\u5171\u5b58\uff0c\u610f\u5473\u7740\u4ed6\u5f97\u6295\u653e\u6642\u9593\u5728\u76f8\u5c0d\u4313\u7463\u7684\u5de5\u4f5c\u4e0a\uff0c\u5982\u7522\u54c1\u958b\u767c\u3001\u5e02\u5834\u71df\u92b7\u3002\u5169\u4f4d\u8207\u9020\u5b57\u5de5\u4f5c\u7684\u60c5\u611f\u4ea4\u7e8f\uff0c\u4e26\u4e0d\u662f\u4e09\u8a00\u5169\u8a9e\u80fd\u8aaa\u6e05\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u674e\u6f22\u7684\u5b57\u7531\u4e00\u888b\u5b57\u5e16\u8e8d\u6210\u4e03\u5341\u842c\u773e\u7c4c\u91d1\u984d\uff0c\u540c\u6642\u9999\u6e2f\u4eba\u8fd1\u5e74\u9700\u8981\u7684\u5b57\u9ad4\u4e5f\u6108\u8da8\u60c5\u7dd2\u5316\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p As times change, how can a sheet of old calligraphy speak across generations and reveal different understandings of art? What new thinking accompanies a new typeface? We begin with the letterforms.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Li Hon Kong Kai was Hong Kong's first successfully crowdfunded typeface based on street calligraphy. Its restoration took nearly five years, and it reached its crowdfunding target in late 2020 before becoming available to buy. The original forms were written by the late street calligrapher \u674e\u6f22 and restored by \u674e\u5065\u660e, the son of a close friend.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u674e\u5065\u660e prefers to call himself a sign maker rather than a type designer. Having grown up around sign production, he does not describe lettering as an art that captivated him; he even recalls disliking art lessons as a child. To him, letters are inseparable from everyday life. \u674e\u6f22's forceful, rough-edged forms were part of Hong Kong's streetscape in the 1980s and 1990s, carrying the old city's refusal to be pushed around. Letterforms became easier to obtain, while type design developed as a specialised practice.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>For Roy Chan, a type designer born in the 1990s, type is an art of black-and-white forms. Yet treating it as art does not remove the problem of unlicensed downloads, which makes the already demanding development of Traditional Chinese fonts harder to sustain.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>He founded Moodmen Font in response to that context, drawing around 200 different styles of lettering over a year and a half, each covering anything from ten to a few dozen characters. He sees public education as urgent, while social-media attention rewards novelty. Working within a commercial environment also means spending time on product development and marketing rather than drawing. Neither man's relationship with making letters is easily reduced to a few words.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>A bag of \u674e\u6f22's calligraphic sheets became a project that raised around HK$700,000. New designs also emerged alongside the emotions of recent years. He imagined fire, twenty-degree angles and a sense of pain: fierce forms that nevertheless kept their energy inside the character square, only answering back when intruded upon. It was an analogy between the type and the people.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>As freedom narrowed and some words became restricted, could typefaces face the same fate? \u674e\u5065\u660e laughed at the question. In his view, Li Hon Kong Kai could be used and interpreted in countless ways. If no single use was prescribed, what would it mean to ban the typeface itself?<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>'Fortunately, that has not happened yet. I mean not yet; I do not know what will happen in the future.' Roy was not particularly anxious about the prospect at the time.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>He believed that even where words were restricted, the possibilities of communication remained too broad to be contained entirely by rules. 'That is how design works: you cannot ban the ideas in people's minds.'
