飛髮舖 is a barber shop in eastern Hong Kong Island. The client’s brief was to think outside the box, a direction already suggested by its down-to-earth Cantonese name.
A simple outline recalls the barber pole. Flat, graphic lettering extends beyond the frame to give the brief a visible form. Small hair-like marks outside it bring the act of cutting into the design.
The idea is direct, but its execution depends on the relationship between a small number of lines, the lettering and the frame. Those elements provide a basis for further brand applications.
